Add feeds & see all feeds
Search feeds
Enter keywords in the top bar Search box and press your Return/Enter key. The results will list feeds containing that text in their names. If there are no feeds in WinnowTag containing your search words in their names, you will see a "No items matched" message.
You don't need to search to check whether a feed is already in WinnowTag before adding it. Duplicate feeds will automatically be detected.
Add / Import
Click the "Add / Import" button in the top bar to open and close the "Add / Import" panel.
Add. To add a feed, enter the URL of a feed or web page in the text box and click the "Add Feed" button. A message appears at the bottom of the screen to let you know the feed has been added, or if winnowTag already has the feed in the collection.
Import. To import feeds, click the "Browse" button, select your OPML file containing a collection of feeds, then click the "Upload" button. Your collection will be added to winnowTag feeds.
"Add to winnowTag" bookmarklet. Install this convenient bookmarklet in your browser to quickly add feeds. After it's installed, when you find a site you want to add to winnowTag, just click the bookmarklet — a winnowTag Feeds page opens with the URL in the "Add Feed" box. FireFox Toolbar install: drag the button to your browser's bookmark toolbar, or right click the button, select Bookmark This Link, and choose the Bookmarks Toolbar folder. Internet Explorer Favorites install: right click the button, select Add to Favorites, click Yes to Security Alert, and create in a Favorites folder.
Sort menu & Ascending / Descending
Reorder the feeds list with the top bar Sort menu options:
- Title lists feeds alphabetically by feed name. "Ascending" lists feeds in alphabetical order, "Descending" in reverse alphabetical order.
- Globally Exclude lists feeds you have globally excluded (pink panels) at the top or the bottom of the feeds list. Select "Ascending" to see your globally excluded feeds at the top, or "Descending" to send them to the bottom.
- Items lists feeds by their number of items in winnowTag. Select "Descending" to see feeds with the most items at the top of the list, or "Ascending" for the fewest at the top.
- Created lists feeds in date / time order of when they were added to winnowTag. Select "Descending" to see the most recently added feeds at the top of the list, or "Ascending" for the earliest added feeds at the top.
- Last Updated lists feeds in date/time order of when winnowTag most recently collected the feeds’ items. Select "Descending" to see the most recently collected feeds at the top of the list, or "Ascending" for the oldest collected feeds at the top.
Feed panels
The panels of each feed in the list display the following:
Orange feed icon
— click to open a new window to the published feed page.
Home icon
— click to open a new window to the feed’s home page.
Feed title
— click to open a new window to a winnowTag Items page listing all the items from the feed currently in winnowTag.
Globally Exclude
— check the box to prevent items in that feed from appearing on the Items page. You may want to exclude a feed if it contains information you never want to see (e.g. spam, obscene), or that you just aren't interested in and that tends to clutter up your views. Globally excluded feeds have pink panels on the Feeds page. At any time you can uncheck the "Globally Exclude" box, permitting the feed’s items to appear on the Items page. Warning: if you globally exclude a feed that occasionally has items you'd like to see, you will be excluding all those items as well. In this case you might be better off creating a tag that is trained on the items you don't want to see, and then globally excluding that tag. See Help: My Tags for a discussion of globally excluding tags.
Items
— shows the number of the feed’s items currently in winnowTag.
Created
— shows the date / time the feed was added to winnowTag.
Last updated
— shows the date / time winnowTag most recently collected the feed.
